Introduction

Like the rest of us, celebrities are constantly getting divorced across the world. This might be somewhat encouraging to many of us, as it shows that even the most successful people can struggle to keep a marriage intact. These divorces can also teach us about some of the most common pitfalls and issues that surround divorces, especially when it comes to financial matters. Of course, many of us do not have access to the kind of wealth that is owned by celebrities. On the other hand, the same basic rules apply to all of us. Even though these celebrities might be dealing with considerable fortunes, the macrocosm mirrors the microcosm.

What can the most recent separations tell us about the current state of divorce law, especially when it comes to financial matters?

Amber Heard Was Offered Millions of Euros

On August 3rd, it was reported that Amber Heard had been offered millions of euros in a previous divorce settlement. According to unsealed documents, the actress was pressured to accept half of Depp’s total earnings for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. For whatever reason, she neglected to accept this multi-million-euro sum – and this fueled her argument during the defamation trial that she “wasn’t after the money.” While the exact amount of Depp’s salary for this film is not known, some believe it was worth “tens of millions” of euros.

Rudy Giuliani Sued by Ex-Wife Over Unpaid Divorce Settlement

Rudy Giuliani is being sued by his ex-wife over an unpaid divorce settlement. The unpaid amount is apparently over $260,000. In this lawsuit, Judith Giuliani accused the lawyer of failing to sell a Florida property. She is allegedly entitled to $140,000 from the home. But because it has been on the market since 2019, she has not seen a dime of the money. Now, she is arguing that she is owed $200,000 regardless of whether the home has been sold or not.

To date, she claims that she has received just $60,000 of her share of the property. In addition, Judith alleges that she was forced to pay $70,000 to cover her ex-husband’s club membership fees, stating that “I had no choice but to pay his share of the dues to remain in good standing with the clubs.” Even worse, she claims she was given a bad check from her ex-husband. Allegedly, the $10,000 check bounced when she tried to deposit it.

Sir Frederick Barclay Also Allegedly Failed to Pay His Divorce Settlement

On July 25th, it was reported that Sir Frederick Barclay was facing similar allegations to those faced by Giuliani. The business tycoon was accused of refusing to pay 100 million pounds to his estranged wife as part of the divorce settlement. His wife is now claiming that he has the money to pay her but is simply refusing to do so. In 2021, he was ordered to pay the 100-million-pound settlement in two 50-pound installments. This was one of the most expensive divorces in English history.
